upgrading gateway 5478

    hi fellows
    i have gateway 5478 desktop

    quad-core @2.4 each
    2gb
    500gb
    8500gt nividia card
    home preimum -vista 32 bit
    next my question is i wanna upgrade the memory

    6gb(which is able to upgradeable uot 8gb)
    but what i heard with 32 bit it recignises uot 3gb
    is this true!!!

    if yes- whats the advice
    if no please advise

    Yes, that is true. A 32bit OS will recognize up to 4GB, but the OS/system will use about 1GB automatically, and that's why you are stuck with 3GB.

    If you upgrade to a 64bit OS, then your PC can see up to 16 or 32GB of ram (I think it's something high around there).

    Why do you want to upgrade to 6GB of ram though? Are you playing games or rendering things? 6GB wont help in playing games, the 2GB you have now is enough. The graphics card on that machine sucks though. But if you aren't playing games you wont have to worry about that.

    i just wanna upgrade it to 3 or 4 gb
    with installing 64 bit(i heard 64 bit is in still buggy )

    now iam not the gaming person
    (i never fond of gaming though)
    just wanna upgrade
    which card is good to my cpu ....any advice will be great help

    the onw i have vgs/s-video/dvi just to hook up to lcd
    do u think upgrade to 3 or 4 gb will be a bit faster
