Bought brand new Memorex -r dvds to backup some photo files. When I used Nero it kept getting an "illegal disc." I searched forum and saw I needed to both update my Nero (I am now on Nero6 express) and try to update my DVD firmware. Well, the freakin' DVD update file doesn't do anything. It just sits there and then locks up my computer. The file I am supposed to use is called "710A_BYX5.EXE" I downloaded from Sony website and it does nothing.

Any thoughts? Anyone have this file and know it works?

Just a note, these aren't the best media available. If you shop in stores, get Verbatims. If online, get Taiyo Yuden.

I ended up using a different computer to update the firmware and it solved the problem.

Thanks for the info on media too--of course, I JUST bought a 100 pack of the memorex..ha ha.
