My friend has brought over his desktop computer for me so i could back up all the stuff onto my pc and make his faster. Now we want to upgrade it but ran into some problems. We want to upgrade his RAM and buy another HD. His PC is an eMachines C6415. Specs are here: http://www4.shopping.com/xPF-eMachi...z-512MB-DDR-160GB-HDD-DVDRW-DL-Integrated-ATI

    Some questions:

    1) If we wanted to upgrade his RAM, what types would be compatible with it? could we upgrade to pc 800 RAM? and does it have to be SDRAM?

    2) His PC's controller type is 'EIDE'- what does that mean and how does it effect what kind up parts we can use for the upgrade?

    thanks in advance

EIDE simply means that the hard drive he currently has is an IDE drive, the old type. Look inside and see if the motherboard has any S-ATA port, they're quite small and look like this:

If there are some present, grab a S-ATA hard drive, they're newer techology and perform faster than IDE drives (although that isn't due to the interface, it's generally because they're newer drives).

As for the RAM, it's DDR1, so you could only use up to PC3200 DDR type, NOT DDR2 or DDR3.
