hi just bought a nec ad-5200A burner but it wont go past the lead-in on dvd-r media, but strangely will burn to dual layer +r and normal 4.7g +r media without a problem, i am running vista home premium, now the funny thing is i only bought the new nec drive because i was having the same problem with my internal drive on my laptop.
has anyone else heard of this crazy problem?

DVD-R was the first type of blank DVD media on the market, as such it uses older, outdated DVD technologies that some newer drives cannot recognize or don't handle well.

Generally speaking DVD+R is far more compatible in most drives (standalone and PC) than DVD-R, and also is far more reliable gives less playback/burning issues due to using newer technologies.

According to NEC your drive supports DVD-R/RW/DL, so it should be able to play it.. but no biggy, stick to DVD+R, it's better anyway.

Current Specs:
ASUS Leucite P5LP-LE Mobo, Intel D 945G @3.4Ghz, 2x2Mb L2 Cache, 1Gb DDR2 SD RAM @677Mhz, Seagate Barracuda 250Gb @7,200Rpm, GeForce7600GT 512MB GDDR2, ASUSTek Tiger Digital/Analog TV Tuner, Samsung SyncMaster941BW 19" LCD, LG H20L DVD±R/RW DL LightScribe, LG GSA-4167B DVD±R/RW DL, Logitech Z-5500 505Watt 5.1 Surround
