I was wondering if there is a way to speed up my machine... I use the following programs to keep spyware in check AVG Spybot ad-ware i also have cwshredder, and ccleaner but last time I used them I think it erased my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse... I had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I notice when I try and listen to Itunes and then do anything else on my computer the music in Itunes starts to skip when a new song starts... I would put more Ram ( not even sure it would help) but 512 pc800 RD Ram is almost $200... Dell screwed us on this memory... I guess I want to know 2 things... 1. is there anything I can do about the music skipping 2. what steps do I take to make sure my computer is in top performance? a.what do I do b.how often do I do them) Jigdish Dell Dimension 8100 desktop 1.3Mhz, Pentium 4 640 MB RDRAM 40 & 250 GB hard drive XP Pro Lite Weight Version /SP2
http://www.google.com/search?q=windows+XP+settings&hl=en http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=windows+XP+tweaks that RAM is much more expensive then the newer stuff for sure, and i would really not go putting too much money into an old system.
Steimy~ Thanks for your help... It's always tough knowing what Tweakers to trust... But Tweakhound seems like he's here to help... As I read further I see just how important disc fragmentation is.. I don't ever do this.. guessing I should start... How often do you Defrag? I never do it because it seems to take forever... Maybe this is because I never do it... Thanks again Jig
Steimy~ I wanted to put my computer specs up so the show with ever post so I don't have to continue to retype them. where do I go to do something such as this? Kinda like how your picture always comes up Jig
moved to correct forum as not a windows issue. jigdish, dell didn't screw you over the memory as that was a 1st generation p4 tho more like a bastardize p3. might be better off scrapping the computer but keep all the drives & put together a new pc. i can buy a brand new dualcore 1.6ghz, 1gig ddr2 ram, 18x dvd burner, 6-8 usb ports, keyboard, optical mouse, speakers, onboard video but with pci/e 16 slot for $280Can but no windows or monitor.
