I know all about ripping, and burning back ups to my movies. I use the most recent version of dvdfab HD decrypter to rip the main movie to my HD before using dvdshrink to burn it. Only ripping and burning the main movie saves on quality because less compression is required. Here is the my problem. I ripped Die Hard, the original, the my HD with no problems. However, it is still 6.36 gigs. I kinda thought that was big for just the main movie. (maybe I am wrong) So my question is this....

Is there any way for me take the 6.36gig main movie and make it smaller so it will require less compression?

Is it possible to remove the credits and the opening movie company logos? Would that make a difference at all even if I did?

Thanks for the help

You can remove some of the beginning and end of the movie but I think you'll find it will make little difference in the overall size. I use DVD Shrink to do it but I'm sure there's other tools. Just remember to apply "No compression" when you tell Shrink to "Backup".

You're only looking at what, a 30% reduction ? With DVD-RB you'll be fine. The movie should end up looking good.

not only removing beginign and ending credits of the movie
before that
if u use dvdshrink
check the languages
usually i kept english 5.1 and eng subtitle
then check the size of the movie sometime u don't have to remove begining ang ending
if u still need it then go for the beg and end

Since you're in the DVD Rebuilder forum, why not use DVD Rebuilder instaed of Shrink. You'll get much better results.

The size of the movie is determined by the total number of frames and the bitrate used. Die Hard movies are high action movies and action scenes use a higher bitrate and as a result use more space. This is a situation where encoders such as Cinema Craft (in conjunction with DVD Rebuilder)do a much better job than transcoders such as DVD Shrink. I haven't tried backing up that movie yet so I am estimating.

Did you remove all but one soundtrack?

I did the first Die Hard movie just a couple nights ago; ripped to HDD with DVDFab then used DVD Rebuilder (HC encoder); haven't got the logfile to hand as i'm not at home right now

Thanks creaky!

I have the Die Hard series so perhaps I will give it try.
