It's taking awhile to get started after powering on, clicking noise, until I get an error message Ox810D0004. The hd is no longer functional. I put the original 80gb drive back in and it works fine. I had replaced it w/a 320gb hd and it worked great for a couple of weeks.

That error code is relative to a HDD problem
Is the recorder leaving Hello after about 12 sec or staying there for some I min. If -I min it would reflect that the HDD is not being recognized

The RHD04 will format a larger than 80gb to the 80gb if compleatly erased in the tools menu

That it did work for a few weeks and at full 320 GB. I gather that you followed the proper procedure for a larger than 80gb drive.

It would require a PC and the proper files installed.
If so even if you did Erase the entire disk it should have formatted it to 80 gb and would work
If so I can only guess that the drive has problems

Try these sites, they have very good stickys on the subject

What a bummer! After all the work, talk about bad luck. What's the current firmware version on the HD04? To find it, press setup and and it's the S/N number, just fishing as to see first if the HD04 is at the most recent update (0201) which would show up in your S/N at this point xxxx-xxxx-0201-xxxx. If 201 is not installed, the solution might be just updating it, fingers crossed !

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I put the 80gb back in and it works famously....
