irealized that i was not very specific in my panic, but this is what happened in detail. i went to restart my computer and boot my vista partition using gparted i made it the main boot and didnt hide my xp partition, then i restarted, and it showed the error message stated before, so i reinstalld vista which were my originall intentions, then it kept giving me that error after one succesful boot, so i decided to swich back to xp...same error(now i am pissed) so i went through the command prompt and tried to delete boot\BCD(thinking this was the entire boot loader which i never wanted to begin with) the access was denied, so i installed lan old linux disc that i had and there were loads of problems with that which i wont get into, so i tried to install vista again and still no luck. now i am thinking of trying to boot my xp partition in another pc and making a backup then starting fresh in my pc. will this work and if not PLEASE give me other valid suggestions, this is a very bad situation, and i am not going to take the lazy way out of reinstaling xp (i NEED the files)

i apologize to everybody for my frantic posting, but after several ours of frustration and unsuccessful Google searches i found a very usefull command. if you ever have any nasty boot loading problems from windows vista, in the xp repair console type in FIXBOOT and it will change everything back to normal

all hale FIXBOOT (the urber code)
