The Abyss 16:9 conversion problem

So I just discovered this program recently and decided to convert whatever non anamorphic DVDs I had to anamorphic. After 3 or 4 movies I tried the Abyss and it will not convert it to anamorphic. Only reason I can think of is because it has seamless branching. Anyone successful in making this DVd anamorphic?

 

I did this one with no problem. What were your settings?

 

the settings are definitely off because I just tried doing Howard Stern Private Parts and instead of waiting 7 hours for it to finish just to see it didnt work properly like last time I opened one of the avi synth script files with WMP and the picture had bars on the left and right side of the screen.
Which settings are you asking about?
I havent changed any of them since the last 2 DVDs were successful.

 

Let's start with this question:
Are the files 4:3 Letterboxed?

 

yes, the files are 4:3 letterboxed and I'm using the HC encoder.

 

The settings you should have are:
Settings/ Options/ AVS Options/ AVS Expert Options/ Convert from LB 4:3 to 16:9.

 

thats the setting I have checked. Are screencaps allowed bc i'll post one to show how its encoding.

 

Perhaps you can post the contents of your Rebuilder.ini file. It's located in the Rebuilder folder. Are you using any other filters? Did you do any preprocessing?

 

i just finished natural born killers and that one didnt come out correct either. There are still bars on the left and right side. Heres the log file...

So I see you're using The free version. It's been some time since I used that one so I forget what some of the settings were but I'll look into it. In the meantime, can you post the Rebuilder.log? There seems to be something missing in the first one you posted. Does the original have black bars on the top and bottom?

 

yes all of them have bars on the top and bottom (and sides) because all the DVDs I am reencoding are letterboxed.

How does the finished product look? What program are you viewing it with?
What format does the .ifo file state?
When using Rebuilder to convert to 16:9, are you selcting the correct VTS?
One thing I overlooked was this:
Reduction Level for DVD-5: 97.2%
This is an already processed movie. Have you tried re-ripping the original?
Do you have Force reencoding (for filters) checked?

 

-It depends on the movie. Natural Born Killers was still letterboxed and so was The Abyss. HS Private Parts looked a little stretched from top to bottom and there were bars on both sides.

-I used windows media player, VLC, and power dvd to view all finished encodes.

-I am definitely selecting the correct VTS file

-yes these are already processed movies. I'm reencoding whatever backups I have that are non anamorphic and havent re ripped the originals (honestly bc I dont have them)

I've just finished encoding scream to anamorphic and it was successful and right now I'm giving the Abyss another try and it looks correct in the preview window. Next I am going to try Natural Born Killers again and if that one doesnt work then I'll post the info on the .ifo file and check the force rencoding filter opetion as I cant check it now bc its in the middle of encoding.

 

OK i just tried the Abyss 2 more times. Both times were unsuccessful. the first attempt, I selected to reencode the only VTS file which was coming up (VTS 04) as anamorphic. When the encode finished, there were 4 VTS files (i guess bc windows splits them into 1gb chunks). They were VTS 04 1, VTS 04 2, VTS o4 3, and VTS 04 4. The only VTS file that came out anamorphically was VTS 04 4. All the rest were letterboxed.
So I tried again, this time instead of just selected VTS 04, I selected apply to all, and with this I got the same results as the first try.
I'm stuck here.
