I connected my laptop to Sony XBR HDTV using PC to PC Cable (HD15 to HD 15).
All screens & Apps from Laptop are visible on HDTV.
However, when I ran AVI file of Oceans 13 using WMA or DivX software player on laptop, I see only a blank screen. I can see the actual Player controls but not the frame or screen inside the player.
Looks like the video streaming is happening at some resolution or Frequency that is not accepted by the HDTV.

ANy thoughts? I don't want to invest in another DVD player just to play DivX or WMA video files on HDTV.

    Sounds like an HTPC issue.

It's standard copy protection that is part of the application. You'll need to turn off your laptop screen to be able to watch the video on the TV. This can usually be done by pressing a hotkey, such as Function + F5. You'll have to look at your specific laptop model to determine which keys to press. You can also turn off the screen by going into the display settings and changing the advanced settings. You'll want to change the setting where is shows both monitor (LCD & CRT) and set it so that it only displays on the CRT (external video).

Thanks silk, I've been seeing a lot of those issues around lately, I hope this can clear up any problems people are having.

Jimmy, that's what you have, it's just a VGA cable.

The cable you have is different. You have a VGA to component(rgb), what he's using is just a vga cable.
