this is kinda like megtrons issues, but mine is a lil more messed. i would have added to his, but i thought it would be rude to take away his issue from his post. plus let me add i know nothing about computer hardware, i can put it together, but specs and what not...... so if you could, please use computer genius to idiot dictionaries. anyway, my problem is like megtrons, with the exception that my pc runs for about 10 seconds then shuts down again. i know its getting power because my keyboard and mouse light up for a second when i turn it on, but after that, nothing. the cooling fans turn on, and i can hear my harddrive trying to be read, but after 10 seconds, the whole thing shuts down and the only thing that lights up is the front power button light, which blinks until i remove the power cord. i did what a few other people have suggested and replaced my power supply, which i needed to do anyway, but that didnt work, and i tried the removing of the battery, which didnt work, so im out of ideas. as said, since i dont know anything about the hardware, i cant really even think of where to start with this. only thing that comes to my mind is the HD is messed and its not reading anyting off of it, but i can guess that that is wrong. if worse comes to worse, ill buy a new PC, but id rather get mine fixed before i go drop a couple thousand, again. any thoughts would be helpful, but i can only imagin this will end in heartache and a lighter wallet.
Do any of the anything on the screen? If so, Any bios logo or post? If its just black and no beeps from the Motherboard (error codes) and you removed the battery which clears the cmos, maybe something went bad in your machine; memory maybe...I know with OCZ memory in my PC i cant post and i get no error codes....but if i take out he memory and put nothing in I will get beeps stating no memory is installed...so in that situation that meant the POST test wasnt getting past the memory. Try: unplugging the HDDs and drive - dont hook back up never needed for pc get past post pull the memory out If you hear beeps then shut down, stick only one stick back in and try that, shut down move it to the other slot(s) and try the other stick.
look at the silver topped can shaped objects on the motherboard which are capacitors as they are supposed to be flat topped not domed & not leaking brown stuff.
