I'm trying to get my old desk top ready for someone ( my mom's fossil of a computer crapped out on her)and it doesn't power up. I have tried replacing the battery and no luck there. Would this be a power supply problem.
do u hav a old psu try that ull need to hav to explain ur problem a little more check if the psu comes on it might be that
O.K to elaborate just a little my mothers older computer crapped out on her (by that i mean the motherboard failed) so i decided to give her my newer desk top which is probably 5 years old. It's been sitting up for almost a year because i bought a laptop at tax time last year. Well when i went to turn it on(the desk top not the laptop) it came on briefly then went right back off. So i left it alone for a little bit and tried to turn it on again and then nothing happened this second try. So i thought maybe the battery was dead so i tried replacing that and tried turning it on again to no avail (that means it still didn't work). So i simply was wondering if it could be the power supply ? But you know what i think i already know the answer !
could be a few things: bad psu, stuck switch. I would say PSU is a good place to start. Try swapping in a PSU you know works. If it does the same thing, pop the switch connector off of the motherboard and (carefully) short out the two pins. It should stay on. If you don't have a spare PSU, have it tested at your local tech shop.
