dumb question about hdtv

this might be a dumb question but i dont know the answer. i have a 42 in hdtv and i was looking at all the connections and i noticed a phone jack on the tv, what is this used for...

 

Sounds like an ethernet port, maybe for performing updates on your tv. What model tv is it?

Yea, that's what it is. You didn't give me your exact model so I couldn't look up anything related to it but, I'd imagine it's on there so that you can perform any updates that the manufacturer comes out with for that particular model.
