my new pc doesnt have a serial port on the motherboard. is there such a thing as a pci serial card or something to that affect? I know theres such a thing as a usb to serial cord but thats not useful to me. I need for for my dish card programmer.
Hi, Most motherboards have a 9 pin RS232 serial port header, but most manufacturers don't include it on the backplane as the space can be used for more commonly used ports. What you need to do is check the model / version of your motherboard on the manufacturers website and look at the manual to see if there is an RS232 port header on the motherboard. If there is you simply need one of these (this is one that has ports for both 9 pin sockets and 25 pin sockets. If not then yes you can buy a PCI serial card like this.
having trouble finding wether or not it has the header, heres the model I have. could you check and let me know, meanwhile Ill keep looking. thanks man http://ca.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=101&l3=496&l4=0&model=1568&modelmenu=1
