How do you define "can't dual boot"? What is the computer doing when you turn it on? Did you do something to break it? We just need to know exactly what is going on if you expect to get any useful answers.

I've never tried anything like what you are with the DVD. If anything, you'd need to read up on the "chroot" command to get anything to go as you're proposing. Even then, I'm not sure, I don't know how the ramdisk would behave though... Don't feel like searching for you either, so hope that at least points you in the right direction. Maybe varnull might know and be more helpful. She'll probably check in here eventually.

what i meant with dual boot was i had windows xp loaded on my computer then downloaded fedora 8 and burned it on a dvd and then i created a new partition and loaded fedora on that new partition. After i finished loading fedora it rebooted and went back to windows and i cant figur out how to get it to give me choice to either boot windows or linux

At any point during the fedora installation did you get asked to "install grub/loadlin to the MBR"?? and if so did you?

    /me doesn't use fedora.. hasn't seen redhat since 8 ;)
