    Hi tripplite,
I dont use any software to move on to the mp3/mp4 . I normaly just drag it from the folder on the laptop to the folder on the mp3/4.. I never had problems beofe , till I messed it up lol..I'm windows vista here.
and the mp3/4 player is MP4 Digital player it say that on the front of it....its black and slim looking andthe back is silver looking.Ans on the box it says... High Quality Series

    Function
    Music format mp1/mp2/mp3/mp4/wma/wmv/asf/wav ect
    FM radio,FM record
    Multi Languange scrolling dispaly
    Digital record and playing
    Repeat,following,compare Function
    Moveing menu
    Frimware update function
it say all that on the back of the box

    Thank you
    Suzy

alright it seems you must have deleted a file/folder the mp3 player uses to accesses to the music/movie files, try and find an option somewhere in the mp4 players setting/options or any utility panel it lists that reads something like

"FORMAT MEMORY" (dont format it using the computer that'll ruin everything)
    "RESTORE TO DEFAULT"
    "ORIGINAL ROOT CONFIGURATION"
    "DELETE ALL FILE/FOLDERS"
use this option, if we are lucky it will format the memory stick for you!
basically the mp4 player searches the root of your memory stick for a certain path (EX:G:suzy'splayer/music/album) if that path is damaged (folders got deleted/files got renamed) the mp4 player will just hit a dead end when it reaches for the mp4/mp3 files, so by formating the players memory stick (DONT GO IN VISTA AND SELECT FORMAT THIS WILL DO SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THEN WHAT WE WANT) this "PATH" will be restored.

now an ipod is made by APPLE
A zune is made by MIcrosoft
who is the creator/brand of your player?

look here and see if you can find it
    http://shopping.com/xFS?KW=MP4+player&CLT=SCH
do you have a website that you bought it off, can i have the link?
