Having problems with PS3 Surround Sound with Plasma TV

    Greetings all,

I am fairly new to the whole surround sound and HD home theater systems. My question may therefore sound rather stupid, however I can't for the life of me figure it out.

I am running a Samsung DvD Home Theater System model HT-X50 with my Insignia 50" Plasma TV-720P.

I am trying to connect my PS3 using the HDMI connection and get surround sound. My Surround sound system only has one HDMI port and my TV has two ports. I know enough to know that HDMI carries sound, however how if I connect the HDMI from the PS3 to the TV will I get it to play through the surround? If I connect it to the Surround sound system there is no way to get a picture b/c the sound system only has one jack so I can't go from the PS3 to the surround and from the surround to the TV.

I know I can get the PS3 to play in surround sound by using the AV cables, however I prefer not to have to do that. Also because I intend on using the same method if there is one to connect my X360 using HDMI. I will be grateful for any help.

    TY:

Sounds like your best bet may be to buy an hdmi switch box. Some have up to 5 inputs and 2 outputs. This should solve the problem.

I have an older Yamaha RV 990 that doesnt have any HDMI inputs LOL . Even for an oldie it still sounds awesome . My 50" Panasonic Plas has 2 hdmi inputs and I wasnt going to be happy with the sound coming from my tv . I use the HDMI from the PS3 to the TV for the vid and I just used the composite cables and ran that into the amp for the sound . Went into the PS3 menu and instructed the video to HDMI but under audio I chose composite . It actually sounds awesome .
