download goldwave
http://www.goldwave.com/release.php
its used mostly for audio editing, but if you click File -> Batch Processing, you can convert audio files. I use it all the time for converting those 192-320kbps mp3s to 128kbps for my mp3 player.

Try converter TuneCab. It easily converts protected and unprotected audio/video files to commonly used formats, easy to use and install, has high conversion speed and good quality

A good converter is Tunebite. I use it for a while and I like it cause it converts audio and video files, protected and unprotected at high speed and it doesn't lose in quality

I will 3rd poweramp. You can run it for free for a month after that it is pricey for all us cheap-asses. The encoders are the best money can buy. That IS your music. Cheap encoders may not provide as clean a rendition. With a conversion you can't improve the sound but you don't have to make it worse. That is why it runs 20-30 USD per year. Lets say you have 20 gigs of m4a tunes ranging in bit rate from 90 to 320. You figure iTunes sucks and want to use Media Monkey. Well Media Monkey doesn't do apple stuff. You can tell the converter to do a fixed rate conversion to mp3s. It will maintain the bitrates and do them all in one batch over night. The ripper that comes with it is as good as it gets. It is a must have tool for any serious about digital music.

Hi folks, I've got goldwave and I use it to edit songs that are too long and so forth but i'm wondering if there is any way I can get my mp3's to sound clearer in any way on my i-pod. I've heard that FLAC is the best to have your songs formatted in but FLAC doesn't play on i=pods so i'm wondering if there is any other format that will play on i-pods and also be a better sound quality than mp3. any tips?
