I just had comcast cable service installed and have been using the HDTV tuner upstairs with OTA signal for the past 2 years without a problem. As soon as I get cable installed I went to memorize the new channels and.....nothing...plugged in the old outside antena to see if there was a problem with the line nope...fine there.... replugged in the cable tried again with std IRC HRC and even air to see if it would pick up anything...nope! no signal strength at all... so I unplugged the splitter and took a direct line into the HDTV samsung ...good signal strength yes! tried all options to memorize channels....Once again nothing ...even added a booster to the direct line and tried all options again nothing...now I am stumped......Can anyone shed any light on how to get the bloody tuner to pick up cable??????

I hate to ask, but how do you know that the cable has a signal?

I was using the cable perfectly with OTA from and attena before I got comcast last week and when I put it back to the attena ( which is outside but comes into the house and is distributed ) so that way I know the cable works and as well as that I hooked up the TV upstairs on that line to test to see if cable was coming through on it. I have seen that this box has problems with stand cable reception. I wondered if I too the line that goes from the digital box downstairs and put a splitter on it (i.e. a digital line not analogue ) would it them be able to get a signal. Now I am asking this question first before trying because as you can imagine rerouting the cabling for this a a big task and if it does or isn't going to work I would rather ask you guys that know rather than spending a day and getting buggered as it didn't work....Once again thanks for any help as it is much appreciated

what if I got one of the new digital tuners and put the basic cable signal into that then into the samsung so that it was receiving a digital signal. Would that indeed work?

Wonder if the tuner in the Samsung is only for OTA HDTV.
A QAM tuner is (I think) required for HDTV cable.
Have you asked the cable company if your Samsung should work?
Aren't these new digital tuners that are to be made available when the switchover comes around, designed for an antenna connection (ATSC)?

Its just a shame that I cant use the tuner with the projector even to watch sd cable with local in HD....bit of a design screw up if samsung only want you to plug an antenna into it not cable ....didnt both with cable for the longest time as I watched most TV on you tube or downloaded it but ATandT screwed up so much with the DSL changed to comcast and got all three services...just not the HD package as yet.....will try a few more things but the house is in the middle of the downstairs being remodelled and ..weeps the loss of my movie room.boo!!! but gained a 46 Samsung TV yay!! so relegated to PJ to the bedroom....still have to find a place for 2200 dvd's but there you go...thankyou for all the help. I think in real terms I am buggered being honest as the tuner was just not designed to work with cable...according to all the info I have found however it does say that it will accept a digital signal.....that was why I wondered if placing one of the new tuner boxes inbetween the cable line and the samsung would work......
