Graphics Card not working

Hi Guys..Just trying to eliminate problems here...Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Building my own computer and ive hooked it all up..PC fires up but on my monitor it says "No Signal" so i got no picture...

Now..I am running:

ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Gaming motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 2.8GHZ
Antec truePower Trio 550Watt PSU
2GB DDR Ram
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty Xtreme Gamer Sound Card
GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB Graphcis Card

Now..Obviousely the first thing I tried was checking make sure the card is in the slot properly and checking all wires and cables.. No problems there..Ive tried the card in my other PCI-E slot and exactly the same problem there.

I assumed after that, The card must be faulty so i sent it abck to the company.. They tested it and said the card is working fine so sent it back to me lol..

I also tried an older graphics card the GeForce 6200 and it has the same problem..

So as you can see im in quiet a predicament and have run out of ideas..

Any help would be much appreciated..

Did you plug in the PCI-E power connector to the video card?

 

yeah plugged that PCI-E into the card..The fan on the actual card is working fine.. the whole card i think is working fine..I dont think its a card problem at all.. but what else could it be?

 

try removing the memory and trying 1 stick at a time, if nothing, try moving 1 to another slot.
What memory are you using? make and model?

 

The Memory I am using is the PNY Technologies 1GB DDR 400MHz as stated I have 2 sticks of this in the pc.. All in all I have 4 sticks but only put in 2..

Im worried its a problem with my motherboard but in saying that everything is brand new from the shop never been used before..

Just tried using 1 stick and nothing..tried moving it to another slot..still nothing lol

 

only have 1 lead going from PSU to Motherboard thats the long 24 pin connector..read the instruction manual and it only said about plugging in the 24 pin connector to the motherboard

 

well pardon me for sounding me like broken record but update to the latest driver suite, it may have some handy tools (repair diagnosis utility's)? if possible try running it in another computer,

what is the model name and brand of your graphics card?

DID YOU UNINSTALL THE OLD DRIVERS OF THE OLD CARD?
you need to uninstall the drivers for the older card (both the provided software that came with it and the windows drivers) if you dont you may have some compatibility issues

 

Hi Tripplite.. the entire PC is built from scratch so i am unable to update anything if i cant get a picture on the monitor and also cant go back to previous cards or anything as there wasnt any lol.. Cheers anyway

up sorry man, make sure you psu is set to the right current out (was it ohms or volts...), mine has 3 settings, its like a small tab control some were on the psu

can you boot into the bios?
make sure the power setting there (If there are any, are set right)

i hate things like this (i feel your pain) its just one little thing screwing everything up!!

btw: i once had a similar problem on a older comp, turned out the cpu battery wasn't placed in all the way, make sure your cpu battery is in and it works!

 

Cant see any tab anywhere on the PSU to enable me to switch over.. as for BIOS...I have nothing on my screen except a little window saying No Cable so if there is BIOS i cant see it..

As for battery..I just tried clearing the CMOS which i first removed the battery then after re inserted it..so the battery is definately in properly.. but still no joy.. lol.. this really sucks.. i just wanna play CoD4 on the thing lol

 

Just because its all new doesn't mean its not going to be DOA.

The next statement isn't going to help right away but is useful advise if you intend to keep building systems. I always have a PCI GPU in my store box, and as a cheap basic card it will always allow me to test a system when problems like this happen.

However having had the GPU card tested it is likely that you can now discount that as the issue.

It looks like a cpu or memory issue to me, if you have 4 sticks, its unlikely to be the modules are faulty, the board possibly doesn't like the memory.

FX57 CPU is supported on all BIOS versions, and PNY memory is shown to work on that board but it could be module dependent.

Was everything factory sealed when you got it, as that mobo and cpu are quite old now, so they could well be returns that have been sitting there on the shelf, I would struggle to find anywhere with that CPU in stock these days it only appears on eBay if I look for it.

Take the CPU out and check the pins, then check socket and re-seat it.

Without any spares it makes eliminating the problem that much harder.

 

Ah..Thx DDP..Ill try plugging that 4pin plug in..Amazing..I went through all the plugging in PSU in my user manual and it said nothing about that 4 pin one..hold on lemme try it out..wish me luck
