    HI GUYS

I've been having a problem at home, I use www.ntl.ie as my ISP, I have had 3 computers connected to the internet at once and no problems, but for a whole no i've had the xbox360 live and since then one of my computers will display Limited or no connectivity, My first thought was redo the network, ipconfig /release, /renew, sp2 bug, all the above failed. I then noticed that my other computer uses a network adapter as I do not have a network card in my own computer so I use this to connect my internet to my usb device, this holds its own pc which is strange to me as I've tried it in my friends computer, work computer and it will always obtain the same IP no matter what, I also tried this device on the other computer that is having the limited or no connectivity problem. It made the computer work fine without problems and also had the same IP. But my computer which was working before then got the limited or no connectivity, so I took back the device into my main as I need it most, after 2 hours the limited or no connectivity sign was gone, but of course I still had 1 computer with limited or no connectivity, I've tried unpluggin the xbox360 also, didnt fix, I then thought for a while and noticed the xbox360 and computer had the same IP, which also made me try renew but alas it did not work, I then called up my ISP to find out if there was a limit to how many could connect, they said no there is no limit. I noticed someone else had this problem and his was resolved when he switched to wireless, all 3 of my computers and the xbox360 are wired. I would be very thankful if you could help me guys!

Reformatted, firewalls disabled, new network card have all been tried

    Hi,

Can you give more details about your setup. E.G. do you connect all your pc's via a router? If so what is the brand / model. What kind of broadband do you have? Is it cable / ADSL?

If you can answer these it will give us more info to assist in helping you.

My ntl cable comes from www.ntl.ie its 6mb download and 520up I think
I connect all to a network hub named Sitecom not sure of the model numbers as im not home at the moment (it is not a router, just a network hub)

so the cable connects to the modem, the modem connects to the network hub, each computer and the xbox360 connects to the network hub also

Well since you have tried a few things so far, this is how I would do things.

First of all eliminate all other factors which could affect the internet connection. e.g. you have already reformatted etc, so you have a fresh install of XP on your PC. I would really start here.

I would personally take your cable modem and plug it directly into your main PC. Now I don't know whether you assign IP's etc manually or if your hub / switch has a DHCP server built into it or not. Either way configure this PC so it works with your broadband.

Once you have this sorted, I would then introduce your network hub / switch back into the equation. If it is a simple hub / switch with no features like inbuilt management etc, then simply plug your cable modem back into the WAN port, and your PC into one of the LAN ports, cross your fingers and hope for the best. If it is a managed switch / hub, I would suggest making a note of the settings, and then resetting it back to factory defaults.

Hopefully it will work 1st time, if not retrace your steps, make sure your using a straight through cable, not a x-over, try a different cable as that one may be faulty etc. As you had it working in the previous step, you know something you have introduced here may be faulty / setup wrong.

If you get this far with no issues then I would suggest adding each other PC / X-Box back into the network and set each up as you go along.

Hopefully you will be back up and running soon! Let us know how you get on.
