Hi lads..Well..Computers all running and working fine except 1 thing.. Hard Drives.. I created a partition on one of my hard drives last night and installed windows xp on it.. All went well except when I go into my computer its only showing 1 of the 2 hard drives I have in the system and whats more its saying that the 1 hard drive its picking up has a total size of 127GB. Why is this? cos I have 2x 500 GB hard drives in the machine. When I go into my BIOS Setup it shows both hard drives at 500.1GB each.. Any ideas on how I can get my full hard drive size recognised and the second hard drive recognised? I have both hard drives plugged in via the SATA Cables and they are plugged into SATA1 and SATA2 Ports.. Cheers Cobe P.S DDP I did commence with the R.T.F.M.D Check first lol
Hi, Your 1st issue regarding the 127Gb for the first disk is due to the fact you don't have 48bit LBA enabled on your pc. This was a common problem with XP SP1, and was addressed with SP2. You can easily fix this by going here to find out how to resolve it. The 2nd one is more of a mystery. I would suggest looking in your disk management (Start > Run > "diskmgmt.msc" - without the quotes). Does your 2nd HDD show here? if it does then you will need to partition it, and then format it so it's available for Windows to use. If it is not displayed then you will need to check your BIOS to ensure that you have set everything up properly. Let us know how you get on.
Hi Phil, Thanks for the reply. Yeah one of the first checks I made was making sure that the Hard drive was showing in my Device Manager.. it is.. So perhaps thats the problem then.. I have to partition it for dos to use it. I thought of this myself but have had some what of a proble.. I cant seem to get into the area where you format a hard drive lol What im after is going onto that blue screen where you can press delete, create a partition and install windows on a ahrd drive.. Trouble is when I insert my windows CD and restart my pc it doesnt give me the option to boot from the CD... it just says press del for BIOS Setup or F4 to create a RAID thingy.. then loads windows... any ideas how to get around this problem? Would anyone know where to find the Sysprep\I386 folder? I have searched but cant find it..the line it asks for it in is 3. Locate the Sysprep\I386 folder in the Sysprep image, and then create a $OEM$ subfolder in this folder. If anyone knows where this folder is I would very much appreciate it if you could tell me. Hi Cobe. Things have changed a lot where you initialised a disk using DOS. I remember the days of FDISKing and himem.sys! In XP you can itialise a disk in the windows environment and even use it straight away without a reboot! Changing the letter is also easy too! And no drivers needed. All you have to do is access "Disk Management" by going to... Start > Run > "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) And you shoul dbe faced with a similar screen Simply select the areas with BLACK bars at the top, and then click "New Partition". If it isn't there select "initialise disk" and complete that, then repreat this step. Complete the rest of the wizard ensuring you choose NTFS as the file system and you are away. Leave it to format for 10-30 mins and your good to go! Let us know how you get on!
