picture but no sound on monitor

    i am having a problem with my monitor? or is itwhen i turn my monitor on there is no sound coming from it but when i turn my monitor off its then that i can only hear the sound coming from my built in monitor speaker,can anyone help me with this problem as i am only new to computers,i have even bought a set of speakers for my pc and its still the same even when i change the settings for outside speakers and the only way i can hear soun from my pc when the monitor is on is when i play something from my library wich is already downloaded,my monitor is a tevion and my pc is a targa,thety both worked for a while at first then the sound just went,they are both little over a year old,please help.

    If you could post what sound card you are using this may help a bit.

    Have you tried these? If not try them in this order.

    Check your sound cables are plugged in correctly (Sound for speakers is normally the Green cable to Green port)

    Run a system restore to an earlier point when it was working.

    Upgrade the sound drivers.

    Just another question, have you had any power shortages, or system failers recently that happend before this problem?

    sorry pegasis i dont even know where the sound card is? and yes i have set the cables right but there is still nothing happening

    At the back of the computer where you plug the cables in for your sound, that is where the sound card is located.

    Have you tried any other of my suggestions?
