    Hi there,

I hope someone will be able to help me do this.

I have an HP Pavilion a420n computer. It has become extremely slow, and half the softwares no longer work properly. I'd like to restore it completely and have it funtion as new. Is there a simple way to do this without a cd rom (it did not come with a recovery cd)?

    Thanks.

Unless you have a recovery cd, your only option would be to do a rollback of windows to an earlier set point (if possible).

Or reload windows and download the drivers and just do a completely fresh install.

If your PC has come with a serial number for windows then you should be able to call Microsoft and see what they can do about getting another disk to you possibly.

That might depend on what version of windows you are using, otherwise you could buy a copy of 98/xp etc.. and use your code, if it does not work, MS will give you a new code to activate as long as you have COA with the serial on it.

HP also sell recovery disks, you could look on torrent sites for a recovery disk, but when I looked there was just crap with porn on the links saying they were your recovery disk.

Your best bet is to deal with HP. Here's the link to get what you're looking for.

try to defrag you hard drive first, use the built-in windows defragger first. open "my computer", choose the hard drive to defrag, right click on the drive/properties/tools/defrag.

If you don't have a built-in defragger, the only one I would recommend is ultimate defrag, they got a free 14 day trial. It works real good.

Also you might want to try to clean up your computer using the free ccleaner program, alot of people here in the forums use it.

And finally you might want to look at what kind of programs you have running in the background, Antispyware programs are known to hog resources. My advice is to get rid of any antispyware programs you have. Just keep your firewall and a simple antivirus(avg free version is good) and only use firefox 2.0 browser. Next download the free "returnil" and engage that everytime you are on the internet (it protects you from spyware and it is the only antispyware program that actually speeds up your computer)

The only time I ever reinstall windows is if I have been compromised with virus and spyware.
