I've gone through a few Epson R series printers and a lot of ink making up DVDs to send to friends in other parts of the world.

I had been generally happy with the results I used to get but now the DVDs come out streaky and not near the "photo-finish" I used to get.

The issue seems to reduce itself to one of three areas:

    1. The printer itself is out of alignment or needs head-cleaning, but I have done both a few times and nothing gets any better.

    2. The disks I am printing on aren't working well. I always used Ridata and even switched to Taiyo Yuden, but they all seem pretty streaky.

    3. The ink cartridges are causing the problem. I tend to be a "they're all the same" kind of a guy, but I am now leaning on the ink cartridges as the potential cause of the streaky problems I have been having.

Anybody have this same sort of problem and found a resolution for it? I'm hoping I can find a good ink cartridge provider that doesn't cost the exorbitant prices of Epson that will do the job for me.

Any chance the coding on the cartridges might be causing the problem. I bought one of those "recoders" you clip your third-party cartridge into but that didn't seem to make a whit of difference.

    Thanks for those links.

I'm a cheap date and only use The Epson Print CD software with an occasional assist from Photoshop.

I print to my third iteration of The Epson R200 and have purchased an R220 which I am about to finally open, and will buy an R280 this weekend.

I have never paid more than $50 for any printers nor more than $5 for any cartridge but I'm looking for some ink cartridge recommendations in hopes of avoiding the streaking I am getting lately.
