I'm stepping off into the HDMI world and am fairly ignorant.

I have a really nice Amp/Preamp setup that provides 5.1 surround and rocks the house in 2 channel. I have a Sunfire 1000 Watt amp and a parasound 2500 preamp. Unfortunately the only video switching is done through S-Video or Component.

I was looking at a new Outlaw Audio preamp with DVI video switching and I was wondering if HDMI and DVI are the same thing, or nearly the same thing? Obviously the pin connectors are different but do they accomplish the same thing, video and audio in one cable? The Outlaw has 2 DVI in and 1 DVI out jack.

I know there are HDMI/DVI cables with HDMI on one end and DVI on the other, so obviously one end (DVI) goes to the preamp for example and the other end (HDMI) goes to my new HD LCD, right?

Yes and no. DVI and HDMI both carry a digital video signal to and from sources. DVI doesn't carry an audio signal like HDMI does.

    That is correct.
