I have the LG "HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N" burner, it has been working fine with NERO7 for ages. I installed a new master hard drive at the weekend and now the little bugger will only burn DVDs and not CDRs. I did have this problem for about a month before my new drives and was unable to fix it then too. It's odd, it will burn the DVD just fine, but not CDRs. I;ve tired 3 different brands of media too, same batch which worked before hand. My computer is fast enough so there is no worries there. Is there a known problem or fix for this? Thanks for your help.
aha, ok here you go. I've got the history and the last failed log too: http://www.webm8.co.uk/NeroHistory.log http://www.webm8.co.uk/Log2.txt Thanks
update your firmware its way behind to see new type discs! yours v1.00 and the new is v1.05 http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2396 ------------- did you mean to do a multissesion cdr and not finalize it? ------------- DMA is on in first nerolog CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On and OFF in second log CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1500ADFD-00NLR5 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : ST3500320AS atapi Port 2 ID 0 DMA: On restore DMA as after consecutive errors PIO mode gets used
ok will download the firmware this evening when i get home from work. just reading the page, is it straight forward as from the warnings it seems a little tricky. nope it should not have been a multi and it should be finalised. that was set in the settings before i told it to burn. DMA, ok thanks, will do that when i get home this evening. (a bit stupid, but where do i change it? thanks) thanks for your help
Write : TRUE Finalize CD : FALSE Multisession : TRUE Multisession type: : Start multisession firmware is done at own risk, but we all do it, i done all 4 drives of mine with 2x hacked firmware... follow instruction to a T ! DMA go to device manager/hardware and uninstall ide controllers and reboot pc!
Hmmmm not sure how to enable DNA mode. i went to device manager and uninstalled the DVD/CD disk drive and restarted pc. I just tried to do another CD with no joy, here is the new error log. It still says DMA is off! I will do the Firmware update tomorrow morning as i have to move cables etc. http://www.webm8.com/Log03.txt http://www.webm8.com/NeroHistory02.log
Hello Simon, Rotary suggested uninstalling the IDE Controllers, and from what you said you uninstalled the drive itself. You want to look in Device Manager for IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Here's an excellent thread for DMA problems (thank you to ZoSoIV for the link) It has all the instructions for deleting the drivers. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 Liz
Apart from your DMA being off, the CDs you are using are NOT good quality so I would recommend buying new ones, Verbatim or Sony (made in Japan)...your DVD's are top quality. In your first 2 logs you will notice that the burns on the Yudens were successful whereas the FAILED Turn your DMA on(link provided) and change your discs.
Ok, I've updated the firmware to 1.05. I've uninstalled the all the IDE drives and made sure the DMA is enabled like the excellent step by step guide said. Everything is done, BUT its still FUBAR'd. Think its time to admit defeat and go buy a new drive. This one is only a year old too I think. Thanks for all your help. PS, which drive do you recomend!
how many brand types did you try now DMA is on? ------------------ whats bugging me and i have never seen this before is this Physical memory : 2047MB (2097151kB) Free physical memory: 2047MB (2097151kB) your pc is useing nothing memory wise, i have read 100's of nero logs and never seen this? may be ok just seems odd? --------------- did we cover installing an ASPI layer? if not do so http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/speed/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2_exe.htm --------------- do you have nero incd loaded?
Hi. I tried 2 different brands, one of them Sony. not sure about the memory thing, no idea what that means. i've got about 3gigs in the machine though. not done the ASPI thing, will have to try that next i guess. thats just a driver? incd, hmm i've got most of neros features installed.
yeah incd isnt good uninstall it to be honest i would try nero v8 and use nero clean tool to get rid first your nero only sees 2 gig memory ------------ when you installed your new HD did you set all master / slave jumpers?
ok will see if i did install it and take it out. Its odd that its suddenly stoped working though. "when you installed your new HD did you set all master / slave jumpers?" hmm well i put in 2 new SATA drives and a fresh install of XP after wipping the MB bios. Althoguh the problem started befpre this fresh install. It was happening on and off for a bit, very tempermental, now its just stopped. perhaps the machine is buggered? Thanks
