hey guys i'm picking up my s*ny surround sound system on fri, i made sure i bought one with an optical connection so as i can hook it up to my ps3 as im a big gamer and sound is of great importance to me but my question is this. Will i get full dolby 5.1 surround sound through the optical cabel while playing games or does it just reproduce 2 channel sound and scatter it through 5 speakers? any advice on this matter will be greatly appriciated!!!Cheers lads (;

Pretty much all games are 5.1, just verify on the back of the game box and look for the Dolbly Digital logo, if it's not there it's just 2.0 sound.

You should have splurged for a receiver that has a HDMI input that accepts and decodes audio, much better quality with the blu-ray movies.

you should go out and pick up the onkyo 605....then get tru HD audio.

Yes, you will get the true 5.1 sound. I haven't come across a game that wasn't 5.1.

I also use my sony theater system with its Optical audio cable for my sound. Yeah, my PS3 is connected to my TV with HDMI but then I would have to use the TV's speakers (which suck). So under settings, in the XMB, make sure to select the optical audio for the PS3 output. It took me a while to realize that. lol I thought the cable didn't work. lmao

cheers for that! all i have to do now is wait two more days cant wait! :) i hope you can help me out a little here? when the ps3 first came out i was initionally going to buy the 40gb just to play games on it & watch a few movies but they did'nt have em at the time so i got the 60gb.I know the 60gb is a mighty machine but to be honest with you i dont know how to get the best out of it, so i was hopeing that you (mr pink) or anyone else can give me the run down on what i need to do to get the best out of it? i would greatly appreciate it!
