pci express video on a low-power power supply

    i have a hp pavilion with a 250 watt power supply. i have a pci-express 16x slot but dont know of any video cards that can work with this little of power... any suggestions anyone?

    i found this at best buy's website, how decent is this card?

    swap out the power supply with a proper one. factory psu's can't handle a new graphics card and the whole system.

    go with a corsair, antec, thermaltake, or seasonic psu, preferably in the 400-500w.

    microatx formfactor is what im stuck with; it has sata 2.0 and an ide channel... i called up hp but they dont have anything other than factory... it looks like that card i found might work though... the minnimum specs is 250 watt power supply

    I would strongly suggest you get a new power supply before you use that card. PSU that comes with pre-built systems are very very poor quality.

    Look into a corsair, seasonic, antec or any other of the good brands.

    Never ever cheap out on your PSU, you will problay regret it.

    Search some sites, I'm sure one of the above manufactures will make something to fit your case.

    i was able to order a 460 watt power supply, but dont know what card to get now. ati might be a better choice, but nvidia seems to have some quality too.

    Well it all depends how much you want to spend, but a ati3870 or nivida 8800gt 512mb are pretty safe bets for a good card.
