Optical Audio Cable question

    my question is if i will lose sound quality if i hook up my otpical cable to my tv and run it to my surround sound reciever or would i get the best sound from running the optical cable straight from my digital cable box to my receiver.... ya know what i mean

    Run the cable to your receiver not the tv

    what i mean is if i run it through my tv will i lose quality?
    or if i run it straight from my digital cable to surround sound(which is how i have it)

    If a tv even lets the signal go through, it's downmixed to 2.0 stereo. So, yes........you'll lose quality, as far as surround goes. Run optical from digital cable box, to A/V receiver.
