I have a 4th generation grayscale iprod (20gig) recently installed the most recent ver. of rockbox. Was curious if I could browse my files by the folders that they're in when I transfer from my pc to the ipod rather then by genre , album or artist? Some of my songs are poorly tagged and I cannot find them easily. thanks
No, it has nothing to do with an ipod other than it will allow you to sync to an ipod. It is a very smart itunes. You can browse by location or by artist on your PC. Ipods store their music in a random fashion to make it harder to get the music off them. The only way to maintain a 'memory' of the folder is to make a playlist for each folder. Media Monkey will allow you to do some mass tag edits easily. I would also suggest you look into some tag editors. That is your real problem. I am well familiar with your problem. At one point I had 7,000 tunes with no artist. On the other foot, I had 6 spellings for Blue Oyster Cult. I know your pain.
lol, yes it seems you do know my pain, so would you consider media monkey a tag editor, or do you suggest another program for that, and how time consuming is all of this?
It is not a tag editor per-say. However, it is a demonstration of what can be accomplished when the developeres are steering the boat instead of a slimy used car salesman stearing most software projects. It is a must try. I suspect you have a descent size library. At even 30 G itunes starts to really wallow. MM easily handles libraries 10 times the size that itunes can barely handle. If you use the artist view you can edit the name of the node (artist or album) and all the tags in the node have their tag changed. Media Monkey is a multipurpose juke-box program. I still use tageditors and PowerAmp for encoding. I have the paid for versions of PowerAmp and Media Monkey. They are truely giants in their area. Tagscanner is one good program there are others that are as good and have different strengths. I keep to tag editors on my computer but can only remember 1. Audio tools are discussed in the audio forum. This forum is less technical and mostly deals with itunes and ipods. Anyone using itunes is probably not very technical. It is near the bottom of the barrel but not the bottom. The bottom is reserved for Microsoft's Zune software. However, even Zune does not screw you behind your back like itunes does. I refuse to be some gredy software companies ass buddy!
