Hey I am trying to discover the most compatible blank dvd media in the world. With your help, I can come to my conclusion hopefully.

Important considerations:
A. BRAND NAME
B. BOOKTYPE (DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+RAM)
C. SPEED OF DISC
D. SPEED OF BURN

Most compatible disc???
A. Taiyo Yuden
-I have read a lot that this is the best blank media and has better scans than any other media.
B. DVD+R and booktyped to DVD RAM
-I previously believed that -r media was the most compatible with standalone dvd players until I read this article:

C. 16x ?
D. 8X or half speed on disc

Moved to DVD Media forum

My preferences are Taiyo Yuden then Verbatim mostly burned at 8x.
For dual layer media - Verbatim only - burned at 4x.

I agree with Binkie! Taiyo Yuden silver printables or white hub printables, +R media! I use 8x and burn at 8x, booktyped to DVD-ROM ..... never ever had problems with family, friends and my own players.... this consists of over 12 players and 5 brands.

The main thing is the quality of the dvd-rw drive. My benqs will burn anything I slap in them.

A) The Q's loved the +8x:Yuden000-T02,Maxell-002-00,Verb MCC003.1 coaster out of 500+ backups. That's my preference if I could get them locally.

B) Booktyped,of course!!!! Less worry about handing a backup out and that person can't play it. Except of my Ty watershields.

C) 8x preferred,but getting scarce. 16x- Verbatim/taiyo yuden.

D) Ty and Verbatim-8x easily. 12x should be no problem.

You can have the best media in the world, but if you got a crap burner-you'll probably still have issues.

My HP 640c,25% coaster rate with the above media, and very low stand alone player compatability rate. The successful backups from it were plum full of crc errors. The best media in the world didn't work on that drive.

HP a1118x-b/athlon 64-3300+/BenQ 1650 BCDC -HP 640c-JS04/Plextor PX-716a 1.01/-Nero 6.6.0.14/anydvd/dvd shrink/Sonic/Dvd decrypter
