Can I use a really old computer to flash my Xbox 360? I'm talking about a really old computer: Dell Dimension XPS D300 that originally ran Windows 98 and currently contains 64 MB of RAM, lol. I wanted to purchase a SYBA PCI SATA / IDE Combo Controller Card, Non Raid from Newegg http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124022 , and install it in the Dell. Will this work to flash my Xbox 360 properly? If not, are there alternative methods to flash my 360, whether it be by using my Alienware Laptop, or mod chip? By the way, my Xbox 360 drive is made by Samsung. Thanks in advance!

If the computer is working fine, then it'll work to flash your drive.

There's laptop chipsets but I'm not sure as if you have room in your alienware for it or not, I have no experience with laptops.

lol, it does meet the minimum requirements (300 mhz & 64 MB RAM). So, should I just go ahead and install Windows XP to do the flash, or just do it with Windows 98 if possible? Thanks in advance guys.

What drive are you flashing? If it's a Samsung or Benq, you don't need any Windows, as you flash it in dos.

I'm using both e-books "Hacking the XBOX 360 for Noobs" and "Hacking the XBOX 360 for Dummies". I think the're both basically the same thing with a few minor changes. What do you mean by what chip I'm using? If its about the PC motherboard, I'm not sure because I got the computer from a friend that knows nothing about it. Thanks again.

I think you can if the computer is actually capable of running the various programs used to flash the 360 like 360 Firmware Toolbox 4.6.
and if it can run Slax 2.(Im talking about the Hitachi v0078fk drive.)

I tried one almost a couple of year ago that was too old to work. The mobo bios wouldn't recognize the PCI SATA card and it had the latest BIOS update which was itself a few years old. That computer was newer that the one you are considering using, but good luck regardless.

Slax isn't used for flashing Samsung drives. You don't need XP either, because all the flashing in done is DOS mode.

I guess if the computer doesn't recognize the SATA card, or the Samsung drive I could just plug the SATA card into other computers until I find one that works. Just out of curiosity, are there any other easier methods of flashing my XBOX 360, like using a special chip or something?

You can send it to someone in ur area or go online and google there are many places that install mod chips. But if you cant flash your own system I wouldnt advise you to try and soder anthing onto ur system
