windows XP log on screen

every time i start up my computer it goes to the old school log in screen (the one where u need to type the user name) and it says something about entering my password, kinda like its trying to automatically log me then either goes to the XP log on screen or doesnt do anything till i press alt+tab. anyway i can change this, i was looking around a bit but didnt come up with anything

 

You mean changing from the 2000 like login screen to the welcome screen? Control Panel - User Accounts - Change the way users log on or off - Use welcome screen.

 

its already set to that, when i first boot it up (this is a computer i built 2 days ago) it would automatically log me in when ever i started up the computer, until i set a password. im pretty sure once i turn off this "auto log on" option, it will go to windows XP welcome log on screen right away when starting up the computer. the family computer does this as well, i never had a problem with it though on my older computer but this time i used their windows xp disc since it was more up to date then my windows xp disc i used on my older computer

*edit* o yea i just remembered, our friend who is a computer technician gave us this windows xp disc but he did alot of tweaks such as force fast shut down and start up. thats probably it, any1 computer wizes out there that could fix this?

 

Thats kinda weird...try adding another account? DOnt think that will help though.

solution 1:

Select Run from the Start Menu, type control userpasswords2, and click Ok.

Turn off the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok.

(variant for sp2 OEM)
Click [Start] [Run] and type
control userpasswords2
Click [OK]
The [User Accounts] Property Sheet displays.
On [Users] tab, clear the [Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer] check box.
Click [Apply].
Enter a user name and password that should be used to logon automatically in the dialog box that appears.
Click [OK].
Go to [Control Panel] [User Accounts] [Change the Way Users Log On and Off].
Uncheck [Use the Welcome Screen] and [Use Fast User Switching]

or for people who just must use point and click everywhere...

solution 2: To turn the Welcome Screen on or off:

You must have a computer administrator account on a computer that is a member of a workgroup or is a stand-alone computer.

1.Open User Accounts in Control Panel.

2.Click Change the way users log on or off.

Do one of the following:

To specify that users log on to the computer using the Welcome screen, select the Use the Welcome screen check box. A user logs on to the computer by clicking his or her user account name on the Welcome screen. If a password is assigned to the account, the user is prompted to type it.

To specify that users log on to the computer without using the Welcome screen, clear the Use the Welcome screen check box. The Welcome screen will no longer appear when you start the computer. To log on to the computer, type your user name (and password, if you have one) in the standard Log On to Windows dialog box.

Solution3:
To disable the Welcome screen you can also open the Registry editor and go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\WinLogon

In the right pane, remove the entry for Gina.DLL. (why the hell is it called that?? only Bill knows)
