I was wondering about up-conversion of DVDs I have a Toshiba 40XF355DB tv and I was wondering what was best to use when viewing DVDs and Upscaling them. I was looking at the oppo brand of dvd players as I have heard they are good but I was wondering would I be better of getting a cheep blu-ray player like a ps3 or something would I get better results I would not mind a blu-ray player but at the moment I am more concerned about the quality I will get off dvd play back the most I would be willing to spend at the moment would be £350 can anyone help me please.

I have an OPPO and a year ago when I bought it, it was one of the few that did 1080P. Now there are others and cheaper that I would consider.

If you buy a PS3, you will not be upscaling as you will get 1080P as it is on the BR. Plus you get to play games.

Two different animals in my book.

If you use your PS3 as your DVD/BR player, wont it burn out the lens just like what happen to so many ps2's?

I'd roll with one of those OPPO's, but then again, a good upscaling OPPO player will run just about as much as a PS3. With the PS3 you get a BR player, so I guess it's a toss up. If you like to play video games and want Blu-ray playback, get a PS3. If you want just a really good upscaling player, get the OPPO.

Ugh, the PS3 will still be able to upscale SD DVD, but of course it won't do this when playing Blu-ray.
