It sounds like the ip setting on the xp pc r set to static . Go to control panel and check to see if the network connection is set to get its ip dynamically.

donilla, you have to release the ip before switching computers unless you buy a router.

you go to control panel open network connections. open settings for your current LAN connection. select internet protocol version 4 (TCP/ipv4) and click settings. set all to automatic. then select your LAN connection and click repair. or restart your computer. happened sometimes that it couldn get dinamic ip unless i restarted my computer. that should do the trick

did you try restarting modem? unplug the modem then plug it in again. which modem do you use? are you using one modem for both computers at the same time via LAN or just on one computer

get a wireless router that is both wired & wireless at the same time. that is connected between the modem & computer.

    Unplug everything!

Then plug everything back in, do a hard reset to your router, and go to your local area network connection and configure it so that it is setup to obtain the ip address automatically thru dhcp on the router.

If you do not know how to do this, google it, so the next time the error comes up u will be prepared..

Post if you need further clarification
