I just purchased a PC with Vista :o(
What is the most stable; user friendly version of Nero for Vista?
I understand that v7.7.5.1 is the minimum for Vista compatibility.
Afterdawn has all the versions here except v7.10.1.2 which I can get from Nero's website.
I should also mention that I installed Nero 6.6.1.4 under the XP compatibility option. Most of Nero works, but I would like the whole suite.
Thanks.

You mention you have 6.6.1.4 installed (NOT a GOOD version) however it is my understanding that Nero6 is not compatible with Vista....I use and recommend 7.10.1.2.
If you do install Nero7 then you will need to uninstall version 6 and then run this clean tool

Thanks Gwendolin, NeroVision is much faster with this version on my Quad GT5658E.
I uninstlled Nero6 and checked the registry before intalling 7. Everything works great.
btw, I didn't find a Clean Tool specific to Nero6 from your link, but the general tool worked fine.

Thanks again.

Don't forget to patch nevideo.ax file in your progfiles/commonfiles/ahead/dsfilter folder which solves the audio sync problem. ( otherwise movie starts off in sync then drifts as time goes on )

Where is the patch? I decided to go with 7.5.7 since it was a much smaller file size, and it's working great. However, I did notice the sync issue you mentioned. If I run into problems, I'll update to 7.10.1.2. Originally posted by gwendolin: That does not happen with the latest version of Nero
By latest version, are you referring to 7.10.1.2 or v8?
Thanks

I was referring to the latest Nero. The patch does cure the sync problem but I recently found out that Vista then gives an error message when clicking on thumbnails, so forget doing this. After further investigation I found updated codecs for Vista which have cured all the problems :) Just search for Vista Codec Package (VistaCodecs installation Database) Product Version 4.6.1.0 (11.9 MB) by Shark 007

Had problems with all versions of nero7 on vista. It depends on the OEM installer of vista and when and with what they do auto upgrades. 3 installations of nero7 on hp and some other retailers hardware were broken by OS upgrades. (observation from the field.. restored system to previous, it updated from manufacturers site and it broke again)
8 (though a bloatware monster) seems more stable.
Personally I would look at the standalone freeware solutions like dvd-flick and imgburn as a simple and safe replacement. They are what I install instead.. there are freeware cd rippers/burners about as well.. use a little imagination.. The days of these expensive bloated "does everything" suites are over.
Nero is a dinosaur from the past. Time to move on.

I have updated to Nero 7.10 and have a problem whenever i try to use Nero Vision4 the window of it freezes on my desktop. With my other verson of 7 i had no problems this way except kept getting the COM SURROGATE ERROR message which is very annoying, anyone got any ideas.

Before I install Nero (most likely to be 8), should I run a roxio cleaning tool as this Dell PC came with Roxio 9 software?

The roxio suite and Nero8 seem to co-exist quite happily.

com surrogate error is the problem you get when you have the wrong or corrupt nevideo.ax file installed. Just download the codecs I gave a link to in my last message and then re install nero and everything will work fine

Thanks Stormin,
7.5.7 has been stable with Vista on my system, so for the time being I'll stay with it unless a problem arises.

That's where the real problem comes in! Once installed, Nero 6 won't un-install on my Vista Laptop. My own fault as I got a warning message when I installed it. I never dreamed that I would have problems un-installing it. I wound up doing a complete recovery on the computer as even system restore wouldn't do anything.
Best Regards,
Russ
