hi just had ago vlc says assertion failed, could it be because in convertxtodvd i have not ticked the add orignal files to dvd box(just a guess)nero or nothing will play them. thanks.
There is an extensive discussion in the VSO Software Forum about this very same issue. http://forums.vso-software.fr/no-convertx-folder-will-open-with-vlc-player-t584.html#2469 Does the DVD play fine in MPC?

Download GSpot. Insert the DVD in your drive. Run Gspot. Go to File, Open and then look for the DVD in My Computer. Select a .VOB file from the VIDEO_TS folder.

According to the link to the vso forum provided by prime_H, there is a post in there that points to a setting in VLC that circumvents the problem. The setting is this one: Uncheck the Start directly in menu option under Input / Codecs > Access modules> DVD with menus and then click Save. Get Codec Tweak Tool here. http://download1us.softpedia.com/dl...00086117/software/tweak/CodecTweakTool225.exe The Tweak Tool will scan for broken filters and codecs and will remove them. If the tool detects something that is broken, you will then be prompted with the details, and be given the option to remove the broken item (s).
