Have been thinking of connecting my laptop to my HDTV and upon searching about I've found I need the following items: DVI-I to VGA Monitor Converter Adaptor & DVI to HDMI lead. Am simply posting for a second opinion as to if this is all I need and what steps I'll need to take (software wise maybe), before I go ahead and buy said items.

Any advice/brief instructions would be greatly appreciated.

(I do own Xbox 360 and am looking for the easiest, cheapest way to watch high def films on my new HDTV).

    Thanks again yeah )

What kind of inputs do you have on the tv? What kind of outputs do you have on the laptop?

    HDMI In 3
    AV IN
    S Video
    Scart
    VGA

Above are on the HDTV and the only matching port on my laptop is a VGA port. I think I'd need something for sound though. I do have a mic input and headset input on my laptop (normal 3.5mm plugs, like on a normal mp3 player), but only have them red and white audio L & R plugs on the HDTV. Any advice anyone.

    Thanks yeah.

Yea man, go VGA TO VGA, then pick you up a set of those 2-channel stereo adapters. You just plug the 3.5 end into your laptop and the other side is a set of left and right RCA cables that will plug into your tv for sound.
