i just built a new computer and i cant get audacity to record anything anymore like how i did on my older computer. i used to be able to record what was being played on the speakers but that box where you choose that "what you hear" option is greyed out and i cant even select it. i wanna get this song from a myspace, ive done it plenty of times on my older computer. what am i doing wrong?

Most likely, you are not doing anything wrong. These new computers and sound cards make it harder to record off the net. On the small window where you select the recording source, click the drop down selector and see what sources are listed. On my present computer I have to hook the sound card "line out" back to the "line in" jacks. This link may help...

i cant click on the drop down box at all. its grayed out. do i NEED a sound card or should onboard sound work? i do have a soundcard but i actually like my new computer's onboard sound better, my old sound card was giving me problems (made the right speaker about 50% quieter then the left speaker)

Are you using Vista or XP? This makes a big difference.Read all this and see if it helps...

Look in your control panel under sound options and see which options are shown for recording.
