I have successfully followed AfterDawn's Guide for joining and splitting AVI files with Virtualdub. However, every time I do one or the other using Direct Stream Copy the video bitrate of the resulting file inevitably falls by 500/600 kbps from the original. Would anyone know why this is? Thanks.

P.S. Happy Easter to one and all!

Well since no reencoding is done, it shouldn't change.

Can you provide more details and perhaps screen shots that might
    explain a little more?

Yes, davexnet, that's precisely why I remain perplexed! When I perform the identical task using a simple program such as AVI Video Joiner the video bitrate remains identical to the original video file. Ditto with my AVI MPEG ASF WMV Splitter program. I verify the end result with Gspot and Videoinspector and, lo and behold, the video bitrate doesn't vary. But with Virtualdub I always lose approx. 600 kbps and the Quality Factor drops from 0.33 b/px to 0.22 b/px. I would prefer to use Virtualdub given its versatility but not at this cost.

In any case davexnet, thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my query.
