Hello

I have an awful lot of DVD's that I copied over the years which have VOB files inside them. The plan now is to put all my unencrypted movies onto a hard drive to save space and eventually stream them onto my telly.

The only problem is I do not know how to convert the VOBs into Xvid or even DivX. I've installed Auto GK but I can only get it to select one VOB file at a time. Not a problem but my DVDs consist of several VOBs.

I would be most grateful if somebody could help explain where I am going wrong.

Cheers

My advice is to run those vob's through dvdshrink and save (backup as ISO). If dvdshrink get's "navigation error's" when opening those files run those vob's through FixVTS first.

Next download the free "fairuse lite", this program will convert your ISO files to a nice 700 mb xvid file. Note this program only convert's ISO's, it won't convert vob's directly. And the ISO's have to be ones that are backup by dvdshrink. If you convert your vob's to ISO with nero or imgburn etc, they won't work.

It looks hard but it's very easy, since your vob's are already decryted, dvdshrink won't have any problems with them. Fairuse is easily one of the best xvid converters, I've converted over a hundred video's with no audio/sync problems encountered. It also has a batch function, you can convert several ISO's at a time and will even turn your computer off when it's done.

If the dvd's are already copy's then there is no protection left on them and fairuse wizard will take them straight of dvd, no need for making an iso first.

And you don't need to use the light version any more as the full version is now free for a limited time from their website.

As far as I know, FU still only accepts ISOs.

As for the Full Edition being free, it's true. So, let me publicly annunciate that the Full Edition, as mentioned by jimbozo is free for limited time offer only!. This is a very powerful software so snag it while it's "on the house"!

I just checked again to make sure i wasn't imagining things.

And FU wizard can do it from disk as well as from iso file, But only if the disk is unprotected.

And i just checked the site and it is no longer free for me, So yous may have missed the boat on the full version for free.
