I have windows vista ultimate 64bit. My video scrambles while watching an xvid file, It ONLY scrambles within the video picture itself windows doesn't get scrambled except for the mouse curser. I've tried the 64bit xvid codec and the XviD-1.1.3-28062007. I've tried windows media player & media player classic. I have a geforce 7950 512mb video card with the latest drivers. I've recently installed vista SP1 as well, I still have the problem. I've tried installing FFDSHOW but it would only cause the scramble to occur faster.

Uninstall FFDSHOW. Instead, download/install these 64-bit codecs.

The properties of the file looked intact. I didn't see anything wide of the mark. Uninstall all codecs. Try Vista Codec Package v4.6.2. The pack
doesn't come with a media player. Apart from WMP and MPC, you can try VLC.

Are all similar video files problematic, or just this particular one?

For whatever it's worth, you can try installing Vista Codec Package v4.6.2.

You're not alone cacarotto.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I can watch a video for several minutes, then it will scramble. Only affects the video window and mouse cursor. Sometimes causes system to reboot after a minute. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP1, nvidia 8800gts (169.44 drivers), drivers are a downgrade from the beta versions nvidia released, still having same problem. divx and cccp codecs installed.

I find that tv show videos scramble faster for me, rather than like south park and anime videos, they seem to last longer or not scramble at all as appose to like tv shows or movies in xvid.

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm using Windows XP SP3. Graphics card is Nividea Geforce 8800GT. quad core processor and 2gb ram. I had Divx installed and the Kcodec pack installed. I uninstalled the kcodec pack and it still happened. I've now uninstalled the Divx codec and been running a movie in the background that had this happen all the time. So far no problem but playback is of course now crap without the codec. Has anyone found a solution for this yet as it's made the computer useless for watching video.

It's not the player, it's the Divx codec causing it. I installed the xvid codec instead and haven't had this problem since.
