    Hi everyone,
I received a new laptop with Windows Vista OEM installed on it as an xmas gift, and I decided that I wanted to try out the new OS, having used XP for several years now.

After a few months, I've decided that while Vista may be more secure and better looking than XP, it runs more sluggishly than XP did. I don't know why this should be the case, since I have an AMD 2.0 GHZ dual-core processor and 2 GB of RAM on this laptop. However, Vista sometimes freezes/locks up when I'm running Internet Explorer and another program at the same time (Microsoft Word, etc) while this never happened on my XP machine that had a Pentium 4 3 GHZ processor and 1.5 GB of RAM. Is Vista truly bloated as some say?

I remain undecided as to whether or not I should completely "upgrade" back to Windows XP SP2 on the laptop, or if I should configure it to dual-boot XP and Vista. Please tell me which would be the better choice, and explain your reasoning. I do have a lot of documents and music, and I don't want to lose these, so advice is appreciated before I either go back to XP or make a dual-boot.

def go back to xp, vista is alot more sluggish compared to xp and alot buggier. you always sacrifice speed with better looks. in games RAM requirements double and CPU speeds requirements go up a little as well. maybe ur not a gamer but just giving u a little idea of vista vs xp. XP is def more stable as well. vista sp1 might be a little better though, im not too sure havent herd much about it

vista sp1 is already released. it's been out for a few weeks now.

you should only go back to xp IF your laptop has drivers for it.

how do i find out if my laptop has the required drivers? and will my files remain on the hard drive, or do i need to back them all up, if i configure for dual-boot, which i plan to do in the near future?

    thanks again.

Cant you uninstall the drivers and install new ones??

I had some stituation yesterday where I had to uninstall my NVADI Graphics card and then install the updated version of it. I found this odd because i'm not a gamer and there was just an alert about compatibily issues with some of the programs I use and that grapics drive.
