Hi, I'm new to the site and wondered if anyone out there can help?

Two of my desktop icons are corrupted, see below. This happened after I recently deleted some software.

I can still access My Computer and My Documents through the icons, however, it does look scruffy and I would be able to sort the problem out.

If anyone knows how to rectify this issue it would be appreciated.

I have tried system restore and Tweak UI so far with no luck.

    Cheers

    John

Right click the corrupt icon and choose "Properties", click the "Shortcut" tab and at the bottom of the options there should be an option to "Change Icon...", click it and enter "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe" into the field for My Computer, or "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mydocs.dll" for My Documents, select the icon you want and then click OK.

Thanks for the reply, however, when you right click My Docs and choose properties, the only tabs are: "Target", "General" and "Sharing", no "Shortcut" tab

Likewise, when you right click My Computer and choose properties, you have several tabs, non with "Shortcut"

Then somehow my XP's different to yours... Unless you can see a "Change Icon..." option in any of those tabs, then i don't know how to help :S

Right-Click on the desktop and choose properties

    or

Go to Control Panel -> Display

Choose the Desktop tab and the Customize Desktop button at the bottom of window. From here you will be able to choose each desktop icon and change it or restore the default.

His XP isn't different than yours, you have shortcuts created to My Computer and My Documents. His is actually enabled through Display Properties -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop
