Hi guys
I'm sure this has been said before, but I tried searching and could not find anything (since I don't really know what to type in the search box to describe this).
My question is: if I have a modded system (software modded with the firmware on the DVD drive flashed) can I play my original games (not backups) on Live without ever getting banned or even taking a risk? I don't play on Live very much, so I figure I can just get the games I want to play on Live and play them if it's safe.
Thank you

the method Microsoft uses to ban consoles is constantly in question and constantly changing......keep your ixtreme up-to-date and you'll be fine:D there is no guarantee that you wont be banned (once banned you can NOT come back) some get banned others dont...its a gamble.....its not 100%

You would still think though that since people attribute most bannings to bad game copies, that playing with REAL purchased games would make you safe.

people right now mostly agree that M$ can't check your firmware, but they can (with logs) tell if your playing backed up games.....so even if you played on live with purchased games but had played backups while off line you still run a risk of being banned:(

From asking around on this forum.. Exactly what I thought from the start was correct.... The best way to NOT GET BANNED is to buy a 2nd system and modify that one.. Play your backup games OFFLINE on your modified system, and play xbox live on your regular one.. Just make sure that you never have the modified system online.. Im modifying one very soon. Probably sell the 2 games, controller and hard drive that it comes with on ebay to make up for the extra cash im putting out.. Well at least make a little money back anyway..

If I ever got fully bored of live, I would probably mod my system, but until then I don't want to rule it out just like that.

Only the console gets banned. So if you were to get banned you could get another 360 and be back on Live again.
unmodded of course

Final thought:
The money you save by using a modded xbox 360 is probably equivalent to the money you can use to purchase a new xbox 360 in less than 7 games
$50 (per game) x 7 = $350 dollars in games.
DVD DL 10 pack. $25
Net savings: $325, which can get you a spanking new xbox 360 arcade + extras such as a memory card and one more wired controller which you can sell for $50 hypothetically.
Ofcourse, you would be conducting piracy, which is against the forum rules. :)
And so, i DO not encourage you to mod your xbox.

p.s.
Unless you get banned within 7 games. That would suck. LOL

Then again I'll probably end up buying all my games second hand from kijiji and craigslist lol, except from when I'm really hyped for one. So I'll probly get most games for 35$ or less, or possibly even trade some.

Well, the final choice is yours. Good luck with it. =)
But let's say you get them for $15 (as cheap as originals get)
$15 x 20 = $300,
I can tell you most people here probably have played more than 20 titles here without getting banned.
(btw, i can tell you that M$ and all manufacturers make money off the games, not the console)
Cheers!

Yeah, if somebody plays alot of games its DEFINITELY worth modding and having 2 systems. With school and work though I probly won't play anything more than 15 games in the lifespan of my system, so I guess for me it's not worth it.
Too bad though, I love this hands on stuff!

Yeah when you play alot of games its definatly worth it.. I have 65-70 games and id say 30-40 were baught brand new on release day for 60 bucks!! So depending on how much you acctually play, its worth it for some people.. But I can see why some people wont bother.. Wont mod their only system and wont buy a 2nd cause they barley play as it is. Its a choice that takes some concideration.. I play games 10+ hours a day so of course Ive been concidering this a while
