Hi i was looking for some help with my Starview box. When all the boxes went down the other day i made the mistake of installing fimware for The Box onto my Starview box rather than Starview firmware. As a result when i turn on the box now it gets stuck on the last flashing green line on the box's display and on the TV it just displays a large graphic saying The Box and it doesn't go to the normal menu anymore. To all the lads out there in the know, is there anyway i can get the box back to normal???

Download the correct firmware for your sv and make sure you don't put genuine firmware on a clone box.

Connect your pc to your sv as normal. Make sure the sv is turned off at the power switch on the back.
Now, fire up GT-ROM, select your bin file, click on the download button, wait a second or two, then turn on your sv at the power switch. The download should start. If you're lucky it'll work first time. It it doesn't, try again, from the start. It may take you a few goes, but it should go eventually.

You want null modem cables? Maplins or Ebay

you need the CryptStar-v14-GenuineOnly.zip file if you have a genuine sv

or

STAR_VIEW_H20060816_257eE_api_FIXED.BIN if you have a clone box

Thats the correct port , the socket is male and the cable should be female

I have male sockets on both the computer and the SV but the cable is male to female so I can only connect one end

hiya everyone. Ive read through all the comments and replies over the last 2 weeks. But have a dilema not asked on here.

i downloaded the v4.00 to my genuine starview box and then entered the codes and it worked upuntill yesterday. It just froze on me. Tried re-installing the new firmware software and it works up untill i get the bit to autointall channels and it freezes. Tried other software and with that it comes on for a minute and then goes off and then comes back on.

What software do i need to install or is it ready for the skip. Can anyone help. Thanks

Is your SV a clone or original?

Look at the vents on top of the box, and see which of these matches;

First Generation = 13 x 7 vents
Genuine = 25 x 7 vents
Clone = 18 x 7 vents

Good ... proceed with the following:

Go buy yourself a NULL modem cable from your local Maplins.

You require the following files from http://eko.4shared.com ...

CryptStar-v14-GenuineOnly.zip (in the starview/firmware folder)
GTRom_v400.rar (in the starview/software folder)

Extract the above files using WinRAR (also found on eko.4shared.com as well) and continue below ...

UPLOADING SOFTWARE TUTORIAL

1. Plug Starview in at the mains;
2. Plug in null modem cable and join up box with PC using COM port on PC (there is only one socket for this on the Starview you cant go wrong);
3. Open up GTRom loader.
4. Click on "BIN File" on GTRom and load the Auto update BIN File file that you have downloaded
5. Now click download button and you will see the file being downloaded.
6. Once complete a message will appear saying something like "download successful".
7. Plug box in and press Menu on remote, select Installation, choose your cable provider, then move down to automatic scan and press OK.
8. Once all channels have been found press exit back to TV screen.
9. Now press menu. Press INFO then type in the number 1570. A new menu will appear. Move down to Key Emu and change option to ON. Press OK, then exit back to TV Screen.
10. Go to scrambled channel (Sky Sports is recommended) and wait on keys updating.
