Windows XP Installation

    A wild attempt to install windows xp on a older desktop computer.
    Info on computer:
    x86 Family 6 Model 5 Stepping 2
    AT/AT Compatible
    Pentium II Processor
    450 MHz
    654 MB of RAM
    32 NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX

    i am currently running windows 2000 pro.
    i can install windows vista but it runs to slow for me and i dont really like vista.
    but when i run the installation to XP, after fomating HD and copying the installation files, when 34 minutes or left in installing and its installing the Devices i get the blue screen that says:

    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000001, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000001)

    please help me!!
    i need XP to run most of my programs.

    my advice is to try cleaning your installation cd. If the cd is scratched or dirty it will give you problems during installation. If that doesn't work, maybe you can try using a different cd rom to install windows. Some cd-roms have more power to read weak cd's.

    Since you where able to install vista with no problems, I think the xp cd itself, is the problem.

    I've run windows xp pro for years with 256mb of ram with no problem. But that could also be a problem if the ram is bad, you can move it to a different slot and try reinstalling.
