I was wondering if anyone knew what card I would have to purchase for my p.c. media center. I have a pansat 3500 satellite box and would like to have the same choices of channels i get from my box to my p.c. card and be able to record shows. I am using media portal for my softwar. Please forgive me if I leave anything out I'm new at this and could use all the help I can possibly get.

How are you to intending to use this with Media Portal? Are you intending to use it stand alone (MP's own player) or are you using the TV server?

If using stand alone check the thread on their own forum for supported cards first and start there. There are not mant DVB-S cards on the list. Else make sure it has BDA drivers so you can add it yourself. The alternativer is to use the TV server (acts as a plu in to MP). It will regonise mostcards but again make sure you can get BDA drivers for it.

Dont really know what sat box you have but would suspect you would need to purchase a splitter and have 2 inputs from your dish. You would then only be able to recieve FTA channels via your HTPC (unless of course you can find an "alternative" software approach - lol). That opens it up to Cams and Joker cARDS ETC ETC which I am really up the wall with after weeks of reading up on teh subject
