I think that you should be able to see the Private Messages you sent. Unless I am just dumb and the site all ready has it.
that and there should be some notice other than an email saying i have a new message, like a little 'new' next to the PM thing under the tabs or something.
this doesn't have to do with private messages but it should show all the people currently online. And it would be nice if once you log in it automatically directs you to your profile home. Because quite frankly most people dont look at there privat messages or profile wall. So its kind of hard to talk to people. I think with automatically directing you to your profile home, more people will check if they have any messages. I also like that Idea that there should be a new message icon. It would really help.
the system sends a e-mail telling you that you have private message, and as far as members online, afterdawn has somany members all over the world it would take a page or so just to show that, and what would that serve? and you can see the message that you sent in your in box persay,have you looked?
ok well i dont check my email every time i check this site. so thats out the window. second it doesn't show you your messages sent. it only does after they have replied. And third the online members thing would be neat so that if you had the new message icon pop up thingy, you could see if there is someone online u need to talk to and send them a message and because they know they would get a new message. it would speed up things and answer your questions faster.

Don't want any new popups.. Had enough of that with the sidebar. How long does it take to click the private messages button and check? Probably less time than dealing with an annoying popup. (that us old timers will just find ways to disable anyway) It is a little strange for us who are more familiar with phpBB based forums not to have an "outbox" or "sent box" for PM's, but I think we are all used to it now. At least when you get a reply you get the original message back as well. It obviously saves server space. There are probably thousands of spam pm's sent every day that just get reported or deleted by the recipient. There really isn't any need to save all those in the senders account is there? You would be surprised how much server space pm's take up, and a heavy duty spammer who never posted in the forums could take up a massive amount before anybody with a live and used account ever sees one. (just a BOFH view on pm's.. with some speculation thrown in)
I got an idea for a function. Move your mouse to the top of the page and click the private messages link? Hmm, I think that might just work....

Hmmm.. sounds like mind control to me Just for fun I could set up one of my bots with a spare account and a script to send 10 spam pm's to every listed active member.. then ask the admins how much server space it ate up... though that might be fun because I can't see a member list anywhere.. so a script to do a search for member with the input "*" to return them all? :: note drD and co.. I'm not going to.. just an illustration of a concept used by spambots.

there is nothing wrong with the way that things have been going on here, verry easy site to understand, i guess for the people who cannot understand the the way things work here maby they need to go back to school! pwhite23 well you need to stay in school as long as you can! also keep comming back i am sure that you will get it! there are plenty of good people who can help.
Ha good idea varnull...but nobody will even know that they will have new messages. UNLESS my idea follows through Oh and mercer uh... im in school and still dont get this site sometimes.
Unless they have the "notify on PM" flag set.. in which case I could generate a massive worldwide heap of spam traffic.. probably getting ad's servers on spam source lists and drastically slowing the site down by telling the bot.. not 10 but 1000 pm's per user.. lmao.
We have plans to implement "you have XX PMs unread" feature to the top of the each page, next to the "Signed in as" thingy. Just been thinking of ways to make it "real time" so that it wouldn't require refreshing the page to get the notification, but instead, it could inform the user right away, even when in middle of reading the page. Furthermore, PM system overhaul is on our books, with outbox, user generated folders and some other stuff. But hey, got only 3 guys (who also do stuff like db design, graphics, etc) here doing the code, so stuff needs to be prioritized Adding user-defined time zones took only about 5 years ;-)
That would be nice.. but no popups XD One thing that would be most useful is a link to messages from profile page instead of having to change back to forums to look.
